What is a fire line and why does my property need one?
A cleared strip down to mineral soil that interrupts a ground fire’s path. On properties with contiguous fuel loads, it cuts the risk of a fire reaching the structure.
How quickly can you respond to a CalFire compliance deadline?

Does CalFire work require special equipment?
Yes — fire line and defensible space work at this scale needs heavy-duty masticators, dozers, and chippers. Hand tools can’t clear fast enough or deep enough to meet the standard.
What's the cost difference between a fire line and standard defensible space clearing?
Defensible space clearing (Zones 0-2 around a structure) and fire line cutting (a dedicated fuel break, often along a ridge or property boundary) are scoped differently — fire lines typically cover more linear distance with less width, while defensible space covers a fixed radius around the home. We quote each separately based on length, width, and terrain.
Will this work actually satisfy a CalFire inspection?
That’s the point of using an approved CalFire contractor — the clearing is built to the standard the inspector checks against, not a general landscaping standard. We can’t guarantee an inspection outcome, but we build to the current PRC 4291 zone specifications.
