Do I need a permit to build a private road?

In most cases, yes. Road construction typically triggers grading permit requirements, and properties in fire hazard zones may require CalFire and county approval for access road specifications. CStille works alongside your project engineer to coordinate permits before breaking ground.

Cross-drainage culverts, outsloping or insloping the road surface, rock-lined channels, and a base course matched to the local soil — all shaped into the grade as we build, not added after.

A straightforward 500-ft access road on reasonable grades runs about 3-5 days. Longer or steeper roads are scoped after the site visit.

A standard driveway is built to vehicle and code requirements for the property. A CalFire access road has to meet specific width, grade, clearance, and turnaround requirements so fire apparatus can actually use it in an emergency — we build to whichever standard your project requires.

Yes. We regularly widen narrow access roads, improve failing surfaces, and add drainage to roads that were never properly engineered the first time.
